Test IE5 or IE6 on your PC with IE7 installed
Posted on Wednesday, July 25th, 2007 under CSS, browser news, designer tools, web design news by Dustin Brewer.I get this question quite a bit for people that need to test their web sites on IE6 mostly that already have IE7 installed. I have found a great piece of software from TredoSoft that does just this. It basically installed IE 3.0, IE 4.01, IE 5.01, IE 5.5 and IE 6 on your computer to let you test your web page on them. This is all assuming you have IE7 already installed. If for whatever reason you don’t want to replace your IE6 with IE7 they also have a stand alone IE7 that you can install to test your web pages on.
I mostly use this software for testing web pages on IE6 standalone. This is a very useful software for testing your web page. For those of you wishing to test Safari you may know that it has been released for PC, but it is still a little buggy.
Unfortunately I don’t have a good way right now to test other browsers on your Mac but I will keep an eye out for something that does. Hopefully the company will create IE6 stand alone for the Mac soon. Currently it does work for Windows XP and Vista though.

I have been using Multiple IE for a while now, and it is definately a musthave for developers serious about testing in every browser, without havingto track down and use old PCs!
Hi Dustin, even though I am a mac user, I still need to test out stuff on IE so using parallels software I was able to install Multiple IE, and it’s a godsend. Another quick way to test sites in IE is using a website based in Germany called Netrenderer. It’s ok and very quick, but the only downside is that it only shows the top half of the page. It shows your sites in IE5/6/7. Have a look:

Thanks.

thenks for this useful material.
CrossBrowserTesting.com allows you to check your site ‘live’ via connection via VNC to several configurations of OS and browsers. The browsers available include IE5, IE6, IE7, FF, Safari. Windows (several versions), OSX, and Ubuntu are supported.
Hi folks,
saw a lot of you postings regarding multiple IEs.
I have a side question which relates to IE7.
I notice that when i develop my website http://alanchow76.com/webdesign on IE6,
it looks perfectly fine and the pop-up menu (products link) is good.
However, the layout and pop-up menu doesn’t turn out good when I view my website with a pc installed in IE7.
Is it true that when webmaster design with the latest version of IE (say IE7) , the results will be as good as in other previous versions.
If that’s not the case, how do we design the webpages?
Thanks and appreciate if any of you kind souls can give me a helping hand in this…
Perplexed.

Multiple IEs (from TredoSoft) works great, except when you’re testing anything with a combination of Javascript and cookies. I don’t think it supports saving cookies.
