Adobe has released an update to Flash 9 that allows it to play HD video. This has been a long time coming and allows Flash to go places that other vendors have yet to reach yet. Being able to watch HD video on the web is a huge step forward for Netflix, Vongo, MovieLink, CinemaNow and others. Hopefully Adobe’s push forward with high definition video will increase interest in the subject and improve the availability of legitimate video services on the internet.
Currently most of those sites only offer old and very bad B movies for watching online. Which of course makes it a less viable option. The original press release can be found from Adobe. You can upgrade your current flash player over here from Adobe also.

Adobe Creative Suite 3 has been released for about a week now and everyone has had a chance to try it out and see what kinds of new things it can do or what new features it has. So far everything that we know and love about the products is mostly there. Although the new palettes in illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3 and Photoshop CS3 are similar to InDesign CS2 as in they stay mostly out of the way unless you need them. Which is a huge benefit for saving screen real estate and possibly one of the most useful features so far. There are of course more functional features that are useful but some of the best features are organizational. (more…)

The announcement of Microsoft Silverlight comes as somewhat a shock to a lot of the design community, with Microsoft introducing a new flash competitor things could start to heat up in the design world. Especially sense they are also developing Microsoft Expression Blend and Microsoft Expression Designer. They have already released Microsoft Expression Web which was the replacement web design product for Frontpage (which was utter crap). So far Expression Web looks like a good program, as far as standards go at least. (more…)

Microsoft recently announced in a press release that they will be acquiring Adobe Systems for $14 billion. This move would further make Microsoft the largest software company in the world and risk bringing Apple down from their recent explosion of popularity by totally monopolizing the industry. Could this means that Adobe products in the future may not work with OSX? (more…)

Adobe is set to have a launch event of Adobe CS3 on March 27th in New York City. The event will be simultaneously webcast on an Adobe web site for all the world to watch. According to Adobe this will be the largest launch event in their 25 year history.
Adobe Creative Suite 3 is the new full version of their package and will include various software including Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS3, Illustrator CS3, Adobe Bridge CS3 and possibly Dreamweaver CS3 and/or Flash CS3. They will reveal the features and suite configurations on March 27th of course and the event is scheduled for 3:30 EST.
I will provide a detailed update about the event shortly after it happens for those that want a good summary. Until then we can only speculate on what software pieces will be included in Adobe Creative Suite 3. Although Adobe is having the event on March 27th, CS3 will not be available until later this spring. Hopefully they will be announcing the exact date during the event also.
Adobe has also released a teaser video in the UK about what’s in the box. Here is the Adobe video link and the web site here.

Adobe has announced their public alpha release of the Apollo runtime environment. This new technology developed by Adobe will allow developers (and designers) to implement cross-platform applications with flash, Dreamweaver, Ajax and other previously online-only tools for offline desktop use. This means that you can develop a web site for users to use offline at their convenience and get updates whenever they connect to the Internet for any changes. (more…)

It looks like Adobe CS3 is just around the corner and we are getting small glimpses of what is to come out of this software. According to reports the full version of the software is to be due out in Spring of this year. Although you must go out of your way apparently to sign up for the beta or regress to only getting 30 days out of the beta software. This is all in part to piracy and serial mix up for some legitimate users of Adobe CS3. Don’t worry though, Adobe has a CS3 serial generator that can help the misfortunate people that got left out in the cold. (more…)
