1&1 Hosting is awful. Migrating the site to MediaTemple

I was getting lots of server errors on all of my sites thanks to 1&1 (1and1.com)’s horrible hosting service. The most popular was an 501 Server Error that kept happening. Not sure what was causing it but it was definitely causing my site to be unreachable. I sent them an email and it took them 7 hours to respond to my sites being down and they wanted to know what sites were affected even though I told them that it was affecting all of my sites and linked to the most important site in the email. Great customer service, right?

1&1 has awful service

Normally I could overlook something like this but it has been common for my site to simply go down and there is no notification from them or urgency in getting the site back up or even responding to my emails about it. I’m sure the sites went down more than I knew about. At any rate I would recommend anyone that is looking for cheap hosting to avoid 1&1 as it is awful and their customer service is even worse.

I’m working on migrating everything over so there will be a couple of things here and there that may not be working on the site as I complete the transition process. I should also have the new site up before too long.

So, lesson learned. Do not use 1&1 for hosting. Let me repeat, Don’t use 1and1 for hosting. They have horrible service.

Styling the first post of your Wordpress blog

I got several emails when I had published my new site design about how to style only the first post of the blog in Wordpress. This tactic can be handy to call out the very first post so that the readers attention is on the most recent topic for your blog. It is actually very easy, and may not be the best PHP in the world but it works perfectly.

I’ve been busy (it is a lame excuse, I know)

I know posts have been sparse but I will assure everyone once I get settled in at my new job I will have time to post articles again and get all of the design news/design tips/design tricks/everything design that you all love and should expect out of me.

I am actually working on a new site design and I may even throw a sneak peak out at everyone to show you guys I really do still care about this web site. Most of the time I would just throw the site up and start working on content again but my time is pretty limited unfortunately so I am almost thinking a sneak peak may be more useful. At any rate expect more frequent posts from me. I am working on CRAP Design 3: Alignment for you guys right now. It should be ready sometime this next week.

Keep checking back re-add me to your RSS feeds and please be patient, much content is on the way. Also, be looking for me on the designer spotlight over at CSS Burst.

Adobe CS3 launch event scheduled for March 27th

Adobe is set to have a launch event of Adobe CS3 on March 27th in New York City. The event will be simultaneously webcast on an Adobe web site for all the world to watch. According to Adobe this will be the largest launch event in their 25 year history.

Adobe Creative Suite 3 is the new full version of their package and will include various software including Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS3, Illustrator CS3, Adobe Bridge CS3 and possibly Dreamweaver CS3 and/or Flash CS3. They will reveal the features and suite configurations on March 27th of course and the event is scheduled for 3:30 EST.

I will provide a detailed update about the event shortly after it happens for those that want a good summary. Until then we can only speculate on what software pieces will be included in Adobe Creative Suite 3. Although Adobe is having the event on March 27th, CS3 will not be available until later this spring. Hopefully they will be announcing the exact date during the event also.

Adobe has also released a teaser video in the UK about what’s in the box. Here is the Adobe video link and the web site here.
