I know it is typical this time of the year to see blogs kind of go dead for a bit and I apologize I’m another one of those guys. But it happens, anyway… I’ve been busy at work with some big projects that we are trying to get live. Late nights, long hours the whole bit.
Hopefully I will start finding more time to add some new content and stuff up here. At any rate, I’m preparing my link round up and hopefully a nice article about CSS design structure to add to the mix.

I have made a few alterations to the site that I thought might be nice to point out to some of the seasoned visitors. I have added a functional footer at the bottom of the page that lists the most recent comments across all articles and I have also added a popular article section. Basically the more traffic an article gets the more popular I rank it. Pretty simple and to the point, I will watch it to see how well it works. Also I may end up clearing it our weekly or monthly to ensure that a page that is super popular doesn’t just stay there forever.
Also I realized that HTML Tidy isn’t 100% acurate in xHTML validation. So I corrected some validation issues based off of the W3’s specifications. The site is back to being 100% xHTML 1.0 Strict compliant which should be a nice little treat. It is also (as always) cross-browser compatible. I just did some minor tweaks in some little things that were over looked and how things were displayed. The CSS is also validated now but I use a CSS3 specification of opacity for some internal icons that don’t validateâ but I don’t care. The opacity CSS identifier works on IE7, Firefox and Opera and I think that is good enough for me. (more…)

I went to Galveston Island in Texas over the weekend for a little weekend retreat to the beach. It was great. So I missed the link roundup for last week and I’m coming close to missing the CSS trick / hack for the week. But I won’t miss them and I’m here now to provide everyone with some quality links. Check out FreelanceSwitch and take their Freelance survey. They are offering some cool prizes that will be awarded randomly. They intend on using the results to formulate a basic idea of the freelance community as a whole. They will provide the results publicly to everyone once they have commenced the survey.
I took it, it is quick and easy nothing too complicated to answer. I had some trouble with the how much profit I have at the end of the year thing. Which is just because I consider profit money left over after I buy all the cool things I want. Which was 0.
Take the freelance survey, it is easy and productive.

I won’t be having link roundup today, some things came up at work today and I’m just not in the mood to put it all together right now. I will have it for you guys first thing in the morning though.
Check back around 9am or so and I should have a great collection of links from this past week from design, technology and a little humor thrown in for the perfect mix to read over the weekend.

Fair use describes conditions under which copyrighted material may be used without permission. Today is the day when all of the pirates around the world grab their best eye patch and some fine rum. Today is Fair Use day, it is not exactly a formal holiday but it is still a practiced holiday by Fair Use supporters. (more…)

Pownce is a new service from Kevin Rose (who brought us digg) and it allows you to send links, events and files to your friends. You can use the very simple web site to do this or you can download the Pownce software which uses Adobe’s new AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) which works like flash but locally and will allow you to run anything written for the runtime through it.
The first 10 comments get an invite to Pownce.

I decided not to make a sneak preview and that I would go ahead and just implement a new design rather then waste my time making the preview. The new design will be an ongoing project and I will try to keep the layout the same so that everyone can navigate the site easily.
A few quick things about the new web site design, first the site is XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant and works on IE6, IE7, Firefox, Safari and Opera all the same way. Which is always a little frustrating at times. (more…)

Thats right, Safari is now available for Windows for all of you Safari lovers out there. I don’t know that I would neccesarily include myself in the Safari loving group but I definetely see it as a tool that will come in handy when ensuring that a web site is working in all browsers.
Now only if Konquerer would come out for windows, things would get interesting. At any rate the software runs great for me on Windows XP SP2 (Tested on 3 XP SP2 machines) I also tested it on a Media Center PC and it worked fine and tested it on a Windows Vista Ultimate computer and Safari worked fine also.
Apparently though I may be a rare case because there have been reports of it crashing constantly or having other weird issues. Roger from 456 Berea Street said that the software never even started up on his XP machine but worked great on OSX.
At any rate, Safari is now working on Windows so we have a new option in the browser war. Personally I will probably stay with Firefox, mostly for the extensions. I could deal with losing the memory issues with Firefox though

I apologize for my lack of posts within the last few weeks, I recently started a new job with a local web design firm that has kept me pretty busy throughout the week. Once I get everything re-situated I will start posting more design articles. Until then, my deepest apologies to my readers for my lack of new content.
I will try this week, but it will probably not be until next week until I can write more web design articles and such. I promise, the wait will be worth it.
